It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It's been great to have Davin home for the weekend (even though it always seems like such a short time). The word on the street for a "home for good" date is now the end of January. sigh
We did luck out today though... Davin's flight tonight was canceled, so he is actually here for more than 48 hours!
Happy Bud
When I went in to the Bud's room this morning, instead of saying the usual "wake up" he said "dada" in a big whine - as in "what are you doing here, I know that Dad is home."

This is the last time we have together before Christmas weekend, so we went to get a tree.
Our tree
We decided to put it up outside on our new (but not quite finished) deck.
Trimmin' the Tree
Because of the "L" shape of our house by the deck, we can enjoy the tree from the den, where we hang out much of the time, and the living room, where we will be entertaining for Christmas.
Shovel
The Bud helped with the shoveling while we worked on the lights.

Tonight we enjoyed the view.
Tree Outside

On a wacky Bud note...
There has been a slight obsession with a small pack of swim diapers that the Bud found in a closet. Here he is wearing them on his arms. I think he was pretending they were wings for awhile.
Odd toys
We even caved and allowed one to come with us in the car to the store on Saturday.
We did, however, leave the favorite red, spatula handle at home.
Who needs real toys?

I'm still here!

I apologize for my disappearance from blogland. I'm still here, really. I'm finding it hard to think about pulling posts together, and I'm feel guilty for not commenting on my regular reads. But "real life" is holding together, even though the "end" (which is not quite in sight) seems to keep moving farther away. sigh.

I do find it funny that I started a class this fall and one of the requirements is to keep a blog and comment on others from the class. So I guess I am blogging, just not here.

The Bud and I spent the morning enjoying the new snow.
First big snow
The benefits of which are (I hope) a nice long nap. :)
First big snow
Yes, we are saying "cheese" in this picture.
The Bud's fancy coordinated snow outfit is courtesy of my favorite nephew. You gotta love hand-me-downs.

I have been doing some knitting. I just finished the brown cable socks I started back in October. Thank you to the Ravelry "Sock Knitters Annonymous" group Knit-along (SKA KAL for those in the know) for giving me a deadline of November 30.
Bark Cable Socks
Poor light and dark yarn make for a bad photo, but I am excited with the results of my first cable project. The pattern is Spring Cable (more project info on Ravelry). I added a linen stitch heel, which I will probably do again on other future socks. I really like the look and the reinforced feel.
Linen Stitch Heel

My next SKA KAL project (with the deadline of December 31) is with my Killer Bees Yarn Pirate Booty Club Yarn.
Killer Bee Charade Sock
The pattern is Charade by I May Be Knitting a Ranch House.
All I can think about as I work on this sock is... this.
I like how it's striping. It will be interesting to see how the colorway plays out around the heel.

Other excitement...
We finally got our anniversary art for this year. Each year Davin and I buy a piece of art for our anniversary.
My Favorite Wedding Photo
(My favorite wedding photo)
We are a little late this year (our anniversary is in August), but I am really excited about the piece we got: a mobile by Julie Frith.
Year 8
Please excuse the temporary string hanging it. I couldn't wait to see it up and I couldn't find anything else.
